In 1999 AMG presents the most powerful of its road vehicles at that time: the SL 73 AMG with 386 kW/525 hp performance. At this point in time the roadster was the unrivalled leader in the small, exclusive segment of open super sports cars. The SL 73 AMG needs just 4.8 seconds to accelerate to 100 kmh (62 mph); the maximum speed is 250 or 300 km/h (155 or 186 mph) depending on customer requirements. It also develops powerful torque: at 4000 revs/min it achieves a generous 750 Newton-metres. The AMG high-performance engine is fundamentally modified compared to the 290 kW/394 hp, V12 basic engine of the SL 600; also the complete transmission, including five-speed automatic gearbox, is adapted to cope with the increased power available. The AMG 7.3 litre V12 engine was built by the AMG engine manufacturer in Affalterbach and provides outstanding driving performances in the Italian super sports car Pagani Zonda. From 1999 till 2001 were only approx. 40 – 50 SL 73 been built. This car is in an extraordinary collector condition.
