HOT SUMMER

Created by Hermann Ries |

As one say, the market values for the Mercedes-Benz 300 SL would decline: Since early summer of this year, Kienle Automobiltechnik is registering increasing buyer interest in 300 SL coupes and roadsters – with corresponding price development. The great classic auctions in July and August illustrated these tendencies – and they have a stimulating effect.

Record prices for two 300 SL Roadsters

The auction houses Artcurial and Gooding & Company were able to announce even record results for the 300 SL from their auctions in Le Mans and Monterey / Pebble Beach: On July 7, an anonymous collector bid at the "Le Mans Classic 2018" by Artcurial a 300 SL Roadster from 1963 firsthand with proven only 1,380 kilometers for as much as $ 3.7 million – the equivalent of about 3.14 million euros. The white 300 SL auctioned on behalf of the Swedish government is the eleventh last built – with aluminum engine, disc brakes, hard top (with original transport case) and complete documentation.

Gooding & Company scored another record with one of the last six examples of the 300 SL Roadster built in February 1963 at Pebble Beach on August 26: US $ 2.53 million. Dollar (about 2.16 million euros) brought with aluminum engine, disc brakes, hardtop and complete documentation offered white roadster. Like the Artcurial Roadster, he had some peculiarities: The complete documentation – with many contemporary photos – lists only three previous owners, the presentations at 17 (!) Concours d'Elégance (each with overall or class victories), repair and Restoration work by specialist Paul Russel and names a mileage of 57,424 kilometers.

A similar mileage has the offer with the number 778 of Kienle Automobiltechnik: 58,142 kilometers shows the speedometer of the 300 SL Roadster with hardtop from 1962, completely restored at Kienle to as new quality. It also has everything what the collector's heart desires: Alumotor, disc brakes and next to the hardtop more extras like a Becker Mexico radio. Around 3000 working hours are in the top restoration, which was carried out in the years 2014 to 2017 in Heimerdingen and offset the car in Concours condition.
